The Naturopath – a professional expert in Naturopathy – works with a person as a global entity (body, mind and emotion). The mission of the Naturopath is to stimulate the vital force of that person (vis medicatrix naturae) and to stimulate her/his spontaneous capacity of autoregulation of the organism, by intervening to help the physiological mechanisms that are present in the natural energetic resources and finding the causes of the energetic-functional disharmonies in order to remove them.
The Naturopath focuses her/his faculty of observation on the following issues: identification of the constitution, of the diathesis and of the human terrain; maintenance and restoration of the homeostatic balance, identification and treatment of the energetic-functional imbalance, stimulation of the inherent reactive capacity of the person, improvement of the “global terrain”, assessment of the environmental and relational influences in terms of harmfulness and maintenance of well being.
Every naturopathic discipline is divided in the three levels that follow:
- Assessment of the global level of of the person’s well being.
- Use of treatment methods and counseling to create a customized program of well being.
- Design of methods for personal, family and social development.
The activity of the practitioner is mainly directed to two areas:
- Intervention for the restoration-maintenance of the psycho-physical well being.
- Information, promotion and education to heal with natural methods.
The Naturopath uses particular techniques, disciplines, products and tools that by now constitute a definitive possession of her/his profession.
Using the naturopathic counseling the practitioner establishes an empathetic relationship with the client. The practitioner uses special listening techniques – body language and creative mind disciplines – to establish a good alliance practitioner-client, which is the basic assumption to redress the balance within the energetic forces of the client. Consequently, the practitioner is also competent in psychological issues and interpersonal communication.
The practitioner only uses non-invasive techniques – in accordance to the ippocratic principle “primum non nocere” – and natural remedies that stimulate the reactive capacities of the system. The bioenergetic methods and the tools that the practitioner uses are not classified as medical and medical character cannot be found in them.
Non-invasive techniques and natural remedies include:
- Analysis concerning biotypology, morphology, iridology, bioenergetics, reflexology and kinesiology.
- Natural, eumetabolic and orthomolecular diets.
- Bodywork and energetic disciplines.
- Herbal and phyto-functional products, food supplements and flower remedies.
- Hygienism and naturopathic iridology.
When working with naturopathy, client information and development are fundamental.
The educational activity implies the capacity to teach the client to find and keep all the aspects that contribute to a healthy way of life, in harmony with the Nature.
In order to achieve that goal the practitioner evaluates the level of knowledge and acceptance of the person and supports him in his progressive acquisition of awareness of his/her state of well being, evaluating it as the combination of its components (biochemical, genetics, prycho-emotional etc.).
The person needs to be able to lead a healthy life, in harmony with his/her own terrain character, and to be trained to conserve it after the naturopathic counsel.
The training process must give responsibility to the person and make him/her well aware of the “physiological mechanisms that contribute to the state of health and well being”.
Once those mechanisms are learnt, the person becomes able to autonomously conserve his/her homeostatic balance, thanks to a conscious care of his/her hygiene, physical activity and correct life style.
